Excellent point WmJ. This reminds me of another older article, first published, and spoken, in 1995. http://www.socialdemocrats.org/schlesgr.html
Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. said it very well in this speech to the graduating class of Roosevelt University when he pointed out the trend, which was just growing and festering twelve years ago, toward bashing government. When, in fact, it is government which holds out the most promise to fix our present ills. So it is not all government that should fear the people. It is the government as it exists today. For many years we have allowed our government to be held hostage by mega-corporations and big money interests. It is THAT government that should fear a new tide of activism and awareness of what has happened to us over the last several years, not all government. Government is not our enemy! In fact, the best hope we have for setting things straight is a wise, powerful, and determined government. Not the anemic, and pathetic government that the last several years have produced! Thanks for the great post reminding us of this matter!
